Ok, so the title is meant to grab your attention, I will explain how I came up with it shortly. What really happened was a local woman fell into a sinkhole. Normally I would let this go by since sinkholes in Florida are not rare, especially around where I live. However, when someone stands in their own back yard and the ground opens up under them and swallows them . . . well, that a bit more of an attention getter.
On March 29th Carla Chapman was standing in the safety of her own backyard when the sink hole gave way. Fortunately she had a cell phone and was able to call both 911 and her husband which sent help to rescue her.
So how did I come up with the title?
The meaning of the name Carla \c(a)-rla, car-la\ as a girl’s name is pronounced KAR-lah. It is of Old German origin, and the meaning of Carla is “free man”. Carl, or Karl, is a Scandinavian name originating from old Norse, basically meaning “free man” or just “man”.
The name Carl is essentially the same as Kyril or Cyril which comes from the Greek Κυριλλος (Kyrillos) which itself derives from Greek κυριος (kyrios) “lord”. As a “lord” is a peer among his peers, so a “free man” is also a peer among his peers. While a “lord” has authority, a “free man” also has authority (over himself at least).
CHAPMAN – a derivative of the Saxon word Caepman, meaning a marketman, a monger or a merchant. According to a list of colonial occupations, a chapman is a peddler or dealer of goods, usually itinerant, going from village to village. The name comes from the Old High German choufman or koufman, which became the Old English céapman. Old High German chouph, Old Saxon cop and Old English céap meant barter, business, dealing, which, combined with mann or man, gives the name CHAPMAN.
Listen to her words, “It compresses you, it’s hard to . . . you can’t maneuver out of it. You’re wiggling and maneuvering more into it.” The whole story left me feeling that there was more news here that readily meets the eye . . .
Personally, I go to my back yard for some peace and quiet and always expect to be safe there . . .

I heard while listening to the news that this was not the first time this woman had fallen into a sinkhole, too. So if you thought there was another, more subtle meaning to the story of her falling into the sinkhole, I believe this credibility to that thought.
