Sermon on the Mount

Posted: December 29, 2012 in Wake Up!

Excellent presentation of the Sermon on the Mount. Keith Daniels quotes this from memory in a moving presentation.

From Sermonindex.com –

“Keith Daniel of Cape Town, South Africa is an evangelist with the African Evangelistic Band. He travels extensively across South Africa preaching the Word of God, and also lectures at Glenvar Bible College in Cape Town. He has made over twenty tours to North America over the past two decades. Brother Keith has a passion to preach God’s uncompromising Word to this generation and calls out to pastors and theologians of our day to believe God’s truth over man’s reason. He has preached in many conventions including SermonIndex.net Conferences in the last 5 years.”

Another excellent sermon on audio only (regrettable) is his quoting of the Book of James from memory where he prefaces it with some very interesting thoughts of James life and his coming to the revelation that his Brother Jesus was actually his God.

Learn of Me

James 4:5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? 6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

Mt 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Adorning the Doctrine of God our Saviour

11-30-2012 Coffee House message.

This message was somewhat of a cross between two messages I have shared both here on Gates of the City and preaching elsewhere. One being Justified in the Spirit and the other Because of the Angels.

I hope this blesses you.

Paul addressed in Romans 14 some as being “weak in faith,” which we must recognize as being in contrast to those who actually possessed the faith which comes from an unmodified or polluted hearing of God’s Word. Such faith is the reward given only to hearts that are diligently seeking to hear from God’s Spirit and such hearts are then required to walk the path to obtain a true and growing understanding of God’s will. (Surely I need not expound on the error of those with double mindedness, or such as have eyes that are not singled towards Jesus Christ our King.)

Having said all that, I feel I must address the natural tendency of people when hearing such words immediately assume I am contrasting myself with the “weak in faith” and making bold claims of personal insight and clear understanding of God’s will, however that is not my claim or point, and to try to refute with many words is simply a waste of time to all.

Nonetheless, according to Paul’s word, there are those who are accepted in the Lord even though they are “weak in faith” which is evident by their actions being limited in areas of consumption or by their energy or focus being given to a specific day or time. Paul counters such with those who have what I would call an effective faith, (for the Holy Spirit did not compel Paul to contrast the “weak in faith” with the strong in faith). It should be evident to all that those with an effective faith are those who are having ears to hear and are consequently walking by the Spirit untangled from the affairs of this world and effectively laboring for the gory and Kingdom of God. Lay Hold of Eternal Life

But we are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brothers beloved of the Lord, because God has from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth, to which He called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I hear it all the time, how God loves us all unconditionally. Over the years of having conducted services at a mandatory rehab for people whose crimes were drug related, ministered at homeless shelters and having countless conversations with “believers” who readily admit they are not walking with God as they should, I frequently run into those who enthusiastically confess to me how they know, absolutely know, that God loves them unconditionally and that He accepts them just as they are.

This has led me into many discussions with people about what it means to “believe” and what exactly this “grace” is that these people are boasting about since they know they are saved because of it.  Sadly, many have no real understanding of what grace really is, they simply repeat what they were once told, “It is unmerited favor.” It is as if people are convinced that when God looks at them He has on some special “Jesus only” colored glasses because they think God only sees Jesus when He looks at them and not themselves for how they truly are.

Grace is truly an amazing gift of God given to the believer, but there are four things about grace we can readily know from scripture –

1. Grace is sufficient

2. Grace can be frustrated

3. Grace while working similarly in all God’s children, still has a uniqueness to it purpose as it is given to each of us

4. Grace can be received in vain.

Add to your faith . . .

Have you added to your faith since you believed?

Have you truly tapped into the grace of God?

(If not you’re in danger of falling…)

2Pe 1:5  And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall.

Legality versus Legalism

Note: In this message I state “grace is not unmerited favor.” For clarification my intent was to express how is grace is not just unmerited favor, it is much much more than that. By grace are we saved, therefore we need to understand God’s grace if we are to fully utilize it and not frustrate it or exhaust its sufficiency before it completes the task God gives it to accomplish in our hearts. Therefore, grieve not the Spirit of Grace and lay hold of the power of the Gospel which makes dead men live and to turns sinners into saints.

Run the race He has set before you lawfully . . .

1Cor 9:24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. 25 And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. 26 Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. 27 But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.

Ga 5:7 You ran well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth?

Php 3:14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

2Ti 2:5 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.

2Ti 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.

Heb 12:1 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.

(click to play, begins with discussion of olympics opening ceremony )

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven,

A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted,

A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance,

A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together,

A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away,

A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak,

A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

1Co 16:22 If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maranatha.

About two years before authoring my first book, “The Eighth Beast,” I felt the need to literally go to the seat of America and to pray for our country, and feeling that I might not be the only one being so led of the Lord, I sought out any possible prayer events that might be happening in Washington DC, and found that there was indeed an organized prayer event happening in a couple of weeks. But even more amazing, without any action on my own part, the Lord amazingly worked things out so as to slip me into the My People Pray 2012 event as the final speaker.

It was truly a God thing, arranged without my knowledge, simply needing my approval afterwards. For as the time drew closer, some brothers in the Lord I had mentioned this to wanted to go as well, and the day before we leave one of them contacted the organizers to see if he could volunteer to assist in anyway. The moderator called him back when she heard we were coming from Florida, and during the conversation mentioned that 15 of the 16 slots for people to give topical prayer were filled, but the final spot concerning the coming of the Kingdom had not. My brother then suggested that they consider me.

Before leaving for Washington DC, as I was taking care of last-minute business, my friend calls me to tell me that everything’s taking care of and that I was going to be closing speaker and began to explain to me what took place. Immediately I stated that I wasn’t sure about it and that I simply felt a need to go and pray for the America, that I wasn’t prepared for such. But after a few moments of prayer, I felt as if the Lord admonished me, “Did not I put this on your heart? Do not I direct your steps?” So, in obedience to the Lord, I went and spoke.

Biblical End Times Players of Revelation (America series – part one)

Because of the “times and seasons” I have been feeling a need to clarify my position on the main players mentioned in Revelation chapter 13-19. This is a topic that has always been in the forefront of my walk with Christ for almost a quarter of a century.  I say that not to convey any type of obsession with Revelations, it just seems to be one of the main topic apart from the Gospel that the Lord has kept me attentive to while watching and praying. Perhaps it has to do with what the Lord impressed upon me long ago. The thoughts I am intending to share over the next few of posts are reflections which over that time have come to offer the most clarity in my view of end time events and players. Much of it has unsettled me personally during that time and obligated me to make many adjustments in my own life and commitments. Sadly, the sharing of my convictions has proven to cause many of my family and friends to become angry over them.

To start, I would like to say that my thoughts are usually very different than most who have unquestioningly ingested the perspective of the admittedly fictional “Left Behind” series with its “16 best-selling novels” by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins. Sadly, to me that fact alone seems only to affirm the truth spoken under unction of the Holy Spirit that in the latter times men would not be able to endure sound doctrine. But instead they would swallow the mere fables of men as if it were the truth of God which only serves to promote doctrines of devils instead. I still chuckle to myself when I remember a comment I once overheard someone make about Moses and his appearance . . . because they saw Charleston Hesston in the movie The Ten Commandments.

The Eighth Beast (America Series – part two)

This is part two following “Biblical End Time Players of Revelation.” In this post I wish to deal with “the eighth beast.”

In seeking to understand the meaning of this prophetic symbol the “Beast,” it is impossible to find a higher authority than God’s own scriptures birthed by the Holy Ghost’s inspiration and consequently must serve as its own interpreter. Therefore, what is understood by the term “Beast” in one prophetic vision is most likely the same intent when the term is utilized elsewhere in similar passages of Scriptures. What adds certainty to the intent is when God has employed His holy messengers to bring absolute clarity to the visions God has given unto His prophets. As we can see by the angel’s interpretation of Daniel’s four beasts, there is no room left for speculation as to what the vision symbolized.

Daniel, in chapter seven, having been desirous to “know the truth of the fourth beast which was diverse from all the others, exceeding dreadful, and of the ten horns that were on his head,” was enlightened by an angel who interpreted the vision for Daniel. “The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms . . .” The angel plainly declares that the four beasts in Daniel’s vision are four civil, or municipal, kingdoms and hence the term “Beast” is used as a prophetic symbol for earthly civil kingdoms.

Come out of her My people . . .  (America Series – Part three)

Re 18:1 And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.  2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.

After John was explained the mystery of “the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many water,” now enters the last angel which is mentioned that comes down from heaven prior to the Lord’s return. While I mentioned in an earlier post that the waters represented “peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues” as Rev 17:15 states, the foothold presence of the American military is literally all over the world and on “many waters” as well. Here in chapter 18 we are seeing an angel comes from heaven with such great power and authority that the earth will be lightened with his glory of his descent. Now, whether this lightening of the earth is literal by the angel, or prophetic of something else, we can but only speculate. However, what we can be sure of is that the fall of Babylon the great into perdition has begun at this time.

The motivation of God’s judgment against America is multi-facet, but primarily because this country has become the habitation of devils, which is implied by how the demonic powers would resort here as birds in a “cage.” The use of the word “cage” is not to imply imprisonment, but rather more of an assigned territory whereby they tirelessly labor lay hold upon the inhabitants of the land with their seductive deceptions. Their presence and workings are witnessed by their descriptions as unclean and hateful birds, creatures of opportunity seeking easy for easy prey and consuming every seed of truth not buried in the heart of the hearer.

Before the Seventy Weeks (America – part 4)

It is assertedby those who embrace the doctrine of a seven-year tribulation period that its primary scriptural foundation comes from Daniel chapter 9. In this chapter the angel  Gabriel tells Daniel that “At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to shew thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision.” Gabriel then continues by telling Daniel of the vision that “Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city.”

We must remember that Gabriel was sent forth at the beginning of Daniel’s supplications when he was confessing his own sins and the sins of Israel. Therefore the “matter . . . and the vision” Gabriel was sent to help Daniel understand was connected to his prayer for Israel in captivity. There were seven specific things Gabriel prefaces this “understanding” of the vision with.

  1. It was a period of time (seventy weeks) regarding Daniel’s people and the holy city (Jerusalem)
  2. It was to “finish the transgression”
  3. It was to “make an end of sins”
  4. It was to “make reconciliation for iniquity”
  5. It was to “bring in everlasting righteousness”
  6. It was to “seal up the vision and the prophesy”
  7. It was to “to anoint the most Holy”

Gabriel then proceeds by dividing up the seventy weeks into three specific time periods-

  1. Seven weeks               7
  2. Sixty two weeks           62 + 7 = 69
  3. The last week              69 +1 = 70

Da 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

It is this seventieth week that has become known as the Seven Year Tribulation and is being referenced to Daniel in 9:27. Therefore I wished to start this post by listing  the particulars of the seventy weeks vision.

 Is America Missing in Prophecy?

If you are an American Christian, I feel that you owe it to yourself to prayerfully consider the following. It is a progressive reasoning of just how America may well be mentioned in scriptures.

We hear it all the time, “Isn’t it amazing that the scriptures are silent about America?” And I thought the same thing myself, at one time, but I don’t believe it to be so anymore. Therefore, I submit the following for those concerned enough to prayerfully ponder whether America is, or is not, in scriptures.

Please do not assume I am anti-America. I’m not. I simply believe God is going to deal with the sins of America like does with every nation. I have only submitted a fraction of information available as  it can be overwhelming to some when first considering this concept. Also, I will endeavor to satisfy any questions posed.

Thank you.

“Here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space. And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.”

The End of America

In light of the current world events, I feel it is worth everyone’s time to not only watch the two videos, but to read John Price’s book as well.

The beast that thou sawest was, and is not;and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. Re 17:8

This verse tells me that the Church should not be “wondering,” but rather aware as God’s children of light.

Why God Created Us Male And Female

.

Whom shall God teach knowledge? And whom shall He make to understand doctrine? Them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breast. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little. (Isaiah 28:9, 10)

In order for anyone to understand anything, they must first be made aware of some basic principles. In math, for instance, one could not very well understand multiplication without first understanding addition.

True understanding can only come from knowledge founded upon God’s precepts. Therefore, this post is an effort to presents those precepts necessary in order to understand the role of male and female, and “why” God created us such.

God created humanity to be both male and female so they could “adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.” In Titus chapter 2 there are many examples for this are given, husbands and wives, masters and servants, young to elders. We especially can even see it in children honoring/obeying their parents according to the commandment with the promise of a long life and how as God’s children if we honor/obey Him through our faith then we too have the promise of eternal life.

To begin, we must first acknowledge how it was the male who was first created in the image of God with a position on the earth similar to God in the heaven. Even nowadays, when in a right relationship with God, a man will faithfully represent God in all his dealings, both in his own household and with his neighbor.

Since true love and commitment must be of one’s free will, God designed humanity with the ability to choose to be either His glory or His shame in the earth. When a man (male) humbles himself and chooses to submit to the precepts of God, he becomes the glory of God in the earth. His life will then both affirm and reflect both the righteous judgments and attributes of God.

Ps 23:3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.

Part of the restoration process is the tearing down phase where God works to be sure we have a good foundation from which to rebuild. For that reason in my last few articles I reviewed a variety of topics in Luke which Jesus addressed before the Pharisees and His disciples, each having great significance. I have now come to the end of my recent scholastic yoyage and journalism to this place in scripture where Jesus tells us ‘If you had faith as a grain of mustard seed, you might say unto this sycamine tree, Be plucked up by the root, and be  planted in the sea; and it should obey you.”

Lord, grant us such faith.

In addition to the topics I’ve recently examined, there are equally significant others that Jesus’ shared deserving of a brief review. Such as when He asked lawyers and Pharisees which one of them would not rescue their ox or donkey if it had fallen into a ditch, even if it was on the Sabbath? Even though they couldn’t defend their own actions, they couldn’t avoid the hypocritical judgment that stirred in their hearts against Jesus when He then healed a man on the Sabbath before them.

While at the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread with them, Luke tells us that all these lawyers and Pharisees “watched” Him, meaning they insidiously and scrupulously observed Jesus looking for fault with Him. With purer judgment than theirs, Jesus openly acknowledged how all they all had taken seats of honor straightway when they came, risking shame and humiliation by possibly having their place taken from them for another more deserving. When invited to affairs such as a wedding Jesus explained, it was more prudent to take the lower place whereby they might receive respect from the host with honor as he publicly calls them up to better positions.

Luke 14:11 “For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
